BRAKES
1. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
A. General
The airplane is equipped with the opened hydraulic brake system S5 00-51 01. Optionally, the
airplane can be equipped with the S5 00-61 01 brake system, which is assembled from the
Matco manufacturer components. The brake system scheme is mentioned on Fig. 32-13.
The brake system is equipped in both cases with the disk brakes on the main wheels. The
brakes serve for reducing the speed of aircraft movement on the ground and for its permanent
stopping during parking or standing.
The brake system is composed of the foot brake pumps (1), distribution of brake fluid (5; 6; 7;
8), expansion tank (2), parking brake valve (9), disks of brakes and the brakes themselves 3; 4).
The pressure in the brake system is generated by the brake pumps (1) that are controlled by the
foot control pedals. The low pressure section of the circuit is composed of the expansion tank
for brake fluid (2) that is connected by the hoses (8)with the brake pumps. The high pressure
section continues from the brake pumps and the brake fluid is lead through the hoses (5; 6) to
the parking brake valve (9) and from there through the hoses to the pistons of brakes that act on
the brake shoes. The expansion tank (2) is attached in the engine compartment on the firewall.
The brake hoses are attached in the front section of the cabin by Emfimastic sealant and then
by the screwed fasteners.
The parking brake valve (9) is incorporated in the brake system. The airplane can be equipped
with the Matco or GoldFren parking brake valve. The parking brake serves for braking the
airplane at short-term standing or parking. The lever of parking brake valve control is located on
the right side of the left seat. The valve is located on the frame under the left seat. By
depressing the pedals of the brake pumps and by simultaneous pulling the control lever of
parking brake, the parking state is achieved. By this, the pressure generated by the brake
pumps is closed in the brake circuit and the wheel brakes are permanently activated. By shifting
the parking brake lever to the position of brake off, the parking brake valve releases the
pressure from the system of brakes and the wheels can turn freely.
The switch of the activated parking brake indication is installed under the lever of parking brake
valve control. If the parking brake is activated, the yellow signaling light PARK BRAKE LEVER
UP is on (Section 31-50).
B. S5 10-03 01 / S5 10-03 02 brakes
The main part of the brake is the cylinder. The cylinder body is a casting from aluminum alloy.
The piston sealed by the rubber ring and the rubber collar are inserted into the cylinder. The
piston in the cylinder along with the collar form the pressure body to which the brake fluid is led
through the inlet located in the cylinder cap. The cylinder body is provided with bosses. One of
the bosses always serves as a venting channel. The venting channel is drilled in the area in
front of the piston and in the upper part it is provided with the thread for the air bleeding screw.
