DISTRIBUTION
1. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
This Section describes those parts of the oil system that are used for transporting the oil from and to
the engine. These items include the oil cooler, thermostat and the oil filter.
The oil cooler is located under the engine; the upper part of the cooler is attached by means of the
brackets to the firewall, the lower part of the cooler is suspended on the engine mount by means of the
strut. If the new engine cowlings are installed on the airplane (Section 71-10), the airplane is equipped
with a smaller oil cooler which is only attached by means of the brackets to the firewall.
The thermostat is installed in the system in order to regulate the oil temperature. In the course of
operation, it keeps the oil temperature within a range of 85 to 95 °C regardless of the flight mode and
the ambient temperature. Depending on the oil temperature, the oil flows into the oil pump directly or
through the oil cooler. The thermostat is installed directly on the hoses between the oil tank, cooler
and the oil pump.
The oil filter is located before cylinder No. 2 on the left side of the engine.
The oil distribution is ensured by the hoses with a fireproof sleeve.
