Troubleshooting the 3rd Wave
The 3rd Wave is built to provide you with many years of musical inspira-
tion. However, if you encounter a problem, or if your 3rd Wave seems to
be behaving in unexpected ways, here are some common solutions.
If the 3rd Wave isn’t making sound:.
1. Create an Init Program. (global>set init program>go)
2. If the problem persists, check the following:
• Make sure the volume control is set to an appropriate value
• Make sure audio cables are connected to
main stereo output 1 jacks (left and
right).
• In the
global menu, make sure that midi local control is set to on.
If the sequencer or arpeggiator won’t start:
• Make sure midi clock mode in the global menu is set to out or off.
Or if midi clock mode is set to in, make sure the 3rd Wave is receiving
MIDI clock from an external device.
If there is a hum in the audio output:
• This can occur from USB-caused ground loops. If your 3rd Wave is
connected to a computer via USB, resolve any grounding issues or use
MIDI instead of USB. (MIDI is opto-isolated.)
If the 3rd Wave is behaving erratically:
• This can be caused by a MIDI feedback loop. Disconnect all 3rd Wave
MIDI connections (MIDI and USB cables) and see if the problem
persists. You can also monitor the MIDI trafc with MIDI Monitor
(Mac OS) or MIDI-OX (Windows) to see if the 3rd Wave is being over-
run with duplicate messages.
If the 3rd Wave doesn’t respond to its controls:
• Make sure midi local control is on in the global menu.
If the lters sound unusual:
• You may need to recalibrate the lters. See “Calibrating the Filters” on
page 115.
