84 Creating Custom Wavetables
Groove Synthesis
There are several things you can do to get the best results with the Wave
Maker.
For best results when making User wavetables:
• Avoid effects on the source audio sample (reverb, chorus, phasing, etc.)
• If possible, when using pitched audio material such as a sample of
an instrument, create the sample at a pitch of F#1 (
93.75 Hz) — F#
below middle C.
• If you are using non-pitched source audio such as noise, turn off the
pitch parameter in the Wave Maker before creating the wavetable.
• The audio source to be analyzed should be no longer than 20 seconds.
Shorter is better.
Creating a Wavetable via the Audio In Jack
It is quick and easy to create a wavetable by connecting an audio source
to the
audio in jack on the rear panel of the 3rd Wave.
To create a wavetable via the Audio In jack:
1. For simplicity, create a Basic Program by pressing the init prog button
from the home screen. (The Basic Init Program conveniently lets
you use a Mod Wheel to sweep through the waveshapes in the active
wavetable, which you will do to audition the user wavetable you
create.)
2. In the Oscillator section, use the
level knob to turn down the levels of
Oscillator 2 and Oscillator 3. It is best to only hear Oscillator 1 for this
example.
3. With an unbalanced, ¼-inch audio cable, connect an audio source to
the audio in jack on the rear panel of the 3rd Wave.
4. Make sure the audio source is at an acceptable volume without distorting.
5. Press the make waves button below the main display. The Wave Maker
controls appear in the display.
