3rd Wave User Manual
Creating Custom Wavetables
6. If you are sample non-pitched material such as noise or percussion,
turn soft knob 3 (pitch) and set it to off.
The pitch control control tells the wave maker algorithm whether the signal
has a mono pitch or should just be left alone from the pitch standpoint and not be
corrected. With this control set to off, the pitch detection is ignored. Set pitch to off
for any non-pitch sound, or sounds with multiple pitches. Some sounds such as FM
sounds that are atonal will not do as well with pitch correction on even if the source is
technically a recording with a single pitch.
7. Press soft button 1 (arm) then play the audio source. The maximum
sample length is 20 seconds, but shorter audio samples will often result
in better results. For best results, play the audio source/instrument’s
pitch at F#1.
8. When the source audio ends, the Wave Maker will display the sampled
audio waveform.
9. Press soft button 2 (play) to audition the sample and make sure it is
what you intended. If its volume level is too low, adjust it on your
audio source and repeat step 7.
10. If you want to adjust the start and end points in the sampled audio, use
soft knob 1 and soft knob 2 to make these adjustments.
11. To adjust the sensitivity that determines where the Wave Maker looks
for appropriate “waveform” points within the audio, adjust the Wave
Sensitivity encoder with soft knob 4. The default setting of 0.125 is
sensitive. Turning soft knob 4 clockwise results in less sensitivity and
fewer timbral differences to extract waveforms (i.e. fewer dramatic
timbral changes).
12. Press soft button 4 (make table). The Wave maker analyzes and creates
a wavetable from the sampled audio.
13. To audition the new wavetable before saving it, go the Oscillator
section and use the wavetable knob to set Oscillator 1 to “wm as its
wavetable. This wavetable is the very last wavetable available (after
the “A” set).
14. Hold down a note on the keyboard and move the Mod Wheel on your
MIDI controller to sweep through the waves in the wavetable.
15. If you like what you hear, press the Make Waves button again to
display the Wave Maker screen.
16. Press soft button 3 to save the wavetable.
