Custom User Waves (“U” Waves)
There are 48 of these 64-waveshape, harmonically-complex wavetables.
They differ from the “P” wave set in that they are high-resolution (96
kHz) and anti-aliased for greater delity and no audio artifacts at higher
frequencies. In addition to these 48 wavetables, the built-in Wave Maker
utility allows you to create your own custom user waves. There are 16
blank slots for custom waves. These will ll slots U48 - U64. In addi-
tion, if you want, you can overwrite any of the 48 factory user waves —
though this will impact any presets that use them.
Analog-Modeled Waves (“A” Waves)
There are 7 of these high-delity, high-resolution analog modeled
waveforms. They are useful for creating classic subtractive synthesis
sounds and effects. Modeled waveforms include sawtooth, square/pulse,
triangle, sine, supersaw, and two varieties of continuously variable noise:
red-pink-white and white-blue-violet. The
wave offset knob controls
pulse width, supersaw detuning, and noise color, depending on which
waveform is selected. Although the wave envelope doesn’t affect these
analog-modeled waveshapes, you can use other modulation sources such
as the LFOs or Envelopes 3/4 to modulate analog waveshapes by choos-
ing wave offset as a modulation destination.
Samples (“S” Multi-Sample Slots)
As of OS version 1.8, the 3rd Wave has a sample oscillator type — the
“S” type — which plays samples you can record or import into the
synthesizer. The “S” oscillator type is a container for multi-samples and
their individual settings.
There can be up to 8 samples in a single S sample slot, and you have up
to 35 seconds of sample memory to work with. The samples can be 8 bit,
12 bit, or 16 bit with sample rates from 48 kHz down to 10 kHz. Each
sample has control of keyboard placement, tuning, level, looping, cross
fade type, crossfade length, and crossfade location. Any or up to all three
oscillators can play samples that sound modern or as original to samplers
from the past as you would like.
