Configuring IPv6 multicast forwarding on a downstream
interface
Typically, only MLD queriers can forward IPv6 multicast traffic and non-queriers cannot. This prevents
IPv6 multicast data from being repeatedly forwarded. If a downstream interface on the MLD proxy device
has failed in the MLD querier election, you must manually enable multicast forwarding capability on this
interface. Otherwise, downstream hosts cannot receive IPv6 multicast data.
On a shared-media network, there might exist more than one IGMP proxy device. If the downstream
interface of one MLD proxy device has been elected as the querier, you cannot enable IPv6 multicast
forwarding on any other non-querier downstream interface of the other proxy devices. Otherwise,
duplicate multicast traffic might be received on the shared-media network.
To enable IPv6 multicast forwarding on a downstream interface:

Configuring IPv6 multicast load splitting on the MLD proxy
If MLD proxying is enabled on multiple interfaces of the MLD proxy device, one of the following occurs:
• If you disable the load splitting function, only the interface with the highest IPv6 address forwards
the IPv6 multicast traffic.
• If you enable the load splitting function, the MLD proxying-enabled interfaces share the IPv6
multicast traffic on a per-group basis.
