Configuration
The
Portable PLUS uses software for configuring its settings, rather
than
using hardware (such as
switch settings).
To
turn
on
the computer, press
any
key; it
is
sometimes necessary
to
press the contrast key
<ID
to
turn
on
the computer. The
PAM
(Personal Applications Manager) screen should appear in the display.
To
adjust the contrast
of
the display, press
<ID
to increase contrast, or press ( Shift
)<ID
to decrease
contrast. Press several times for a larger increase or decrease in the contrast.
Nole:
If
you press
and
hold
<ID
for more
than
15 seconds, the computer will turn off
and
the
system will
be
reset. This affects active operations
but
does not affect stored files.
To
change
the
time
or
date settings, press @ (Time & Date) in the main
PAM
screen. From the time
and
date
menu, use the tab or cursor keys to select the fields to edit,
and
use the "Next Choice'
and
"Previous Choice" function keys to
~elect
the desired choice. Press the
(ill
(Exit) function key to
return
to the main
PAM
screen.
The
system configuration defines memory allocation, timeout operation,
and
display options;
and
se-
lects a peripheral communications device
(a
serial RS-232-C interace or the optional direct-connect
modem).
To
change the system configuration, press @ (System Config) in the main
PAM
screen.
From the system configuration menu, use the tab or cursor keys to select the fields
to
edit,
and
use the
"Next Choice'
and
'Previous Choice' function keys to select the desired choice. Use the
(ill
(Exit)
function key to return to the
main
PAM
screen. (Choosing a
serial
peripheral may require changes in
the
datacom configuration, discussed next.)
The
datacom configuration defines interaction between the computer
and
ljO
devices: those con-
nected to the serial interface, the optional built-in modem,
and
those connected to the HP-IL interface
via
an
interface device such as the
HP
82164A
HP-IL/RS-232-C Interface.
The
datacom configuration
also defines
baud
rate, word length,
number
of
stop bits,
and
parity.
To
change the datacom configu-
ration, press the @ (Datacom Config) function key in the main
PAM
screen. From the datacom
configuration menu, use the tab
or
cursor keys to select the fields to edit,
and
use the
'Next
Choice'
and
'Previous Choice' function keys to select the desired choice. Use the
(ill
(Exit) function key to
return
to the main
PAM
screen.
