Installing switching
transcoder modules
Perform the following procedure to install switching transcoder modules
(STMs) into the BSC chassis assembly.
1. Remove an STM (see table 2-1) from its shipping container.
Save the container.
2. Press the front panel reset switch toggle into the down position.
3. Install the module into slot 14 of the card cage.
4. Use a crosstip screwdriver to tighten the module’s captive
screws.
5. Set module front panel DIP switches to the SUDs setting shown
in figure 2-29.
6. Release the front panel reset switch toggle so that it returns to
the center position. Verify that the status LED readout displays
a P after completing SUDs, then displays a d.
Note
If the status readout does not display a P, the
module has failed SUDs. Refer to section 4,
“Troubleshooting.”
Repeat steps 1 through 6 to install additional STMs into the BSC chassis,
then refer to section “Installing blank panels.”
Installing blank panels All empty slots on the BSC chassis assembly must be covered by blank
panels. Perform the following procedure to install the panels.
1. Remove a blank panel from its shipping container.
2. While holding the blank panel in place at the empty slot, use a
crosstip screwdriver to tighten the panel’s top and bottom
captive screws (see figure 2-30).
3. BSC chassis assembly #1 is now fully populated. Repeat the
procedures in section 2.9 to populate chassis assemblies #2 and
#3 in the initial BSC rack. Then repeat section 2.9 to populate
chassis assemblies in the expansion racks.
