Host Subsystem
Switching and roung funconality, system management, and system control funcons of an EX9214
switch are performed by the host subsystem. The host subsystem consists of a Roung Engine
funconing together with a Switch Fabric.
You must install either two or three host subsystems in the slots 7 through 9—labeled 0, 1, and 2 | 6—in
the front panel of the chassis. A base-conguraon EX9214 switch has two host subsystems. A
redundant-conguraon EX9214 switch has a third host subsystem. For more informaon, see "EX9214
Switch Conguraons" on page 9.
Line Cards
The EX9214 switch has 12 vercal line card slots. The line cards for EX9214 switches combine a Packet
Forwarding Engine and Ethernet interfaces in a single assembly. Line cards are eld-replaceable units
(FRUs) that you can install in the line card slots 1 through 6 (labeled 0 through 5) and 9 through 14
