Thefollowingnotesdescribethetypeofmicroprocessorthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthat
youmustconsiderwhenyouinstallamicroprocessorandheatsink:
•Microprocessorsaretobeinstalledonlybytrainedtechnicians.
Important:Alwaysusethemicroprocessorinstallationtooltoinstallamicroprocessor.Failingtouse
themicroprocessorinstallationtoolmaydamagethemicroprocessorsocketsonthesystemboard.Any
damagetothemicroprocessorsocketsmayrequirereplacingthesystemboard.
•TheserversupportscertainIntelXeonscalablemulti-coremicroprocessors,whicharedesignedfor
theLGA2011socket.Thesemicroprocessorsare64-bitdual-coreorquad-coremicroprocessors
withanintegratedmemorycontroller,quick-pathinterconnect,andsharedlastcache.See

•Donotmixmicroprocessorswithdifferentcoresinthesameserver.
•Theserversupportsuptotwomicroprocessorswhenthemicroprocessor2expansionboardisinstalled.
Note:Microprocessor2expansionboardissupportedwhenthesecondmicroprocessorisinstalled.
•Whentwomicroprocessorsareinstalled,theairbaffleandfan2mustbeinstalledtoprovideproper
systemcooling.
•Whenyouinstallthesecondmicroprocessor,youmustalsoinstalladditionalmemory,theairbaffle,and
