Whentheserverisconnectedtoasuitableinputsourcebutisnotturnedon,theoperatingsystemdoesnot
run,andallcorelogicexceptfortheserviceprocessor(theintegratedmanagementmodule)isshutdown.
However,theservercanrespondtorequeststotheserviceprocessor,suchasaremoterequesttoturn
ontheserver.Thepower-onLEDflashestoindicatethattheserverisconnectedtoinputpowerbutisnot
turnedon.
Turningontheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnontheserver.
Approximately5secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtoinputpower,oneormorefansmightstartrunning
andthepower-onLEDflashesquickly.Approximately10secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtoinput
power,thepower-onbuttonbecomesactive.Afterthepower-onbuttonbecomesactive,thepower-onLED
flashesslowly.Youcanturnontheserverbypressingthepower-onbutton.
Step1.Pressthepower-onbuttontoturnontheserver.
Step2.Theservercanalsobeturnedoninanyofthefollowingways:
•Ifapowerfailureoccurswhiletheserveristurnedon,theserverwillrestartautomaticallywhen
powerisrestored.
•IfyouroperatingsystemsupportstheWakeonLANfeature,theWakeonLANfeaturecanturn
ontheserver.
Whattodonext
1.When4GBormoreofmemory(physicalorlogical)isinstalled,somememoryisreservedforvarious
systemresourcesandisunavailabletotheoperatingsystem.Theamountofmemorythatisreserved
forsystemresourcesdependsontheoperatingsystem,theconfigurationoftheserver,andthe
configuredPCIoptions.
2.Whenyouturnontheserverwithexternalgraphicaladaptersinstalled,theLenovologodisplaysonthe
screenafterapproximately3minutes.Thisisnormaloperationwhilethesystemloads.
3.Makesuretheleft-sidecoverisclosed.
Turningofftheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnofftheserver.
Whenyouturnofftheserverandleaveitconnectedtoinputpower,theservercanrespondtorequeststo
theserviceprocessor(theIntegratedManagementModuleII(IMM2)),suchasaremoterequesttoturnon
theserver.Whiletheserverremainsconnectedtoinputpower,oneormorefansmightcontinuetorun.To
removeallpowerfromtheserver,youmustdisconnectitfromthepowersource.
Someoperatingsystemsrequireanorderlyshutdownbeforeyouturnofftheserver.Seeyour
operating-systemdocumentationforinformationaboutshuttingdowntheoperatingsystem.
