Installinganadapter
Usethisinformationtoinstallanadapter.
Thefollowingnotesdescribethetypesofadaptersthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthat
youmustconsiderwhenyouinstallanadapter:
Toconfirmthattheserversupportstheadapterthatyouareinstalling,seehttp://www.lenovo.com/

Locatethedocumentationthatcomeswiththeadapterandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditionto
theinstructionsinthissection.
Donotsetthemaximumdigitalvideoadapterresolutionabove1600x1200at75HzforanLCDmonitor.
Thisisthehighestresolutionthatissupportedforanyadd-onvideoadapterthatyouinstallintheserver.
Avoidtouchingthecomponentsandgold-edgeconnectorsontheadapter.
TheserverusesarotationalinterrupttechniquetoconfigurePCIadapterssothatyoucaninstallPCI
adaptersthatdonotsupportsharingofPCIinterrupts.
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserverispowered-on
mightcausetheservertostop,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,
alwaysuseanelectrostatic-dischargewriststraporothergroundingsystemwhenworkinginsidethe
serverwiththepoweron.

Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoturnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,
anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Toinstallanadapter,completethefollowingsteps.
Step1.Carefullyturntheserveronitssidesothatitislyingflat,withthecoverfacingup.
Attention:Donotallowtheservertofallover.
Step2.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage188).
Step3.Unlockandremovetheleft-sidecover(see“Removingtheleft-sidecoveronpage49).
Step4.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage188).
Step5.Seethedocumentationthatcomeswiththeadapterforanycablinginstructionsandinformation
aboutjumperorswitchsettings.(Itmightbeeasierforyoutoroutecablesbeforeyouinstall
theadapter.)
Step6.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheadaptertoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceon
theserver;then,removetheadapterfromthepackage.
Step7.DeterminethePCIeslotintowhichyouwillinstalltheadapter.
Step8.Rotatetheadapter-retentionbracketstotheopenposition.
