•Observegoodhousekeepingintheareawhereyouareworking.Placeremovedcoversandotherparts
inasafeplace.
•Donotattempttoliftanobjectthatyouthinkistooheavyforyou.Ifyouhavetoliftaheavyobject,

–Makesurethatyoucanstandsafelywithoutslipping.
–Distributetheweightoftheobjectequallybetweenyourfeet.

•Backupallimportantdatabeforeyoumakechangestodiskdrives.
•Haveasmallflat-bladescrewdriveravailable.
•ToviewtheerrorLEDsonthesystemboardandinternalcomponents,leavetheserverconnectedto
power.
•Youdonothavetoturnofftheservertoinstallorreplacehot-swappowersupplies,hot-swapfans,or
hot-plugUniversalSerialBus(USB)devices.However,youmustturnofftheserverbeforeyouperform
anystepsthatinvolveremovingorinstallingadaptercablesandyoumustdisconnectthepowersource
fromtheserverbeforeyouperformanystepsthatinvolveremovingorinstallingarisercard.
•Blueonacomponentindicatestouchpoints,whereyoucangripthecomponenttoremoveitfromor
installitintheserver,openorclosealatch,andsoon.
•Orangeonacomponentoranorangelabelonornearacomponentindicatesthatthecomponentcanbe
hot-swapped,whichmeansthatiftheserverandoperatingsystemsupporthot-swapcapability,youcan
removeorinstallthecomponentwhiletheserverisrunning.(Orangecanalsoindicatetouchpointson
hot-swapcomponents.)Seetheinstructionsforremovingorinstallingaspecifichot-swapcomponentfor
anyadditionalproceduresthatyoumighthavetoperformbeforeyouremoveorinstallthecomponent.
•Whenyouarefinishedworkingontheserver,reinstallallsafetyshields,guards,labels,andgroundwires.
Systemreliabilityguidelines
Thesystemreliabilityguidelinestoensurepropersystemcooling.
Tohelpensurepropersystemcoolingandsystemreliability,makesurethatthefollowingrequirements
aremet:
•Eachofthedrivebayshasadriveorafillerpanelandelectromagneticcompatibility(EMC)shield
installedinit.
•Iftheserverhasredundantpower,eachofthepower-supplybayshasapowersupplyinstalledinit.
•Thereisadequatespacearoundtheservertoallowtheservercoolingsystemtoworkproperly.Leave
approximately50mm(2.0in.)ofopenspacearoundthefrontandrearoftheserver.Donotplace
objectsinfrontofthefans.Forpropercoolingandairflow,replacetheservercoverbeforeyouturnon
theserver.Operatingtheserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withtheserver
coverremovedmightdamageservercomponents.
