Note:Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestfirmwareor
restorethepre-existingfirmwarethatthecustomerprovidesonadisketteorCDimage.Makesurethatyou
havethelatestfirmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebeforeyouproceed
Toremovethesystemboard,completethefollowingsteps.
Step1.Carefullyturntheserveronitssidesothatitislyingflat,withthecoverfacingup.
Attention:Donotallowtheservertofallover.
Step2.Unlockandremovetheleft-sidecover(see“Removingtheleft-sidecover”onpage182).
Step3.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage188).
Step4.Removethefancageassembly(see“Removingthefancageassembly”onpage261).
Step5.Notewherethecablesareconnectedtothesystemboard;then,disconnectthem.
Attention:Disengagealllatches,releasetabsorlocksoncableconnectorswhenyoudisconnect
allcablesfromthesystemboard(see“Internalcableroutingandconnectors”onpage33
).Failing
toreleasethembeforeremovingthecableswilldamagethecablesocketsonthesystemboard.
Thecablesocketsonthesystemboardarefragile.Anydamagetothecablesocketsmayrequire
replacingthesystemboard.
Step6.Removeanyofthefollowingcomponentsthatareinstalledonthesystemboardandputthemina
safe,static-protectiveplace:
•Adapters(see“Removinganadapter”onpage215
)
•DIMMs(see“Removingamemorymodule”onpage250)
•Microprocessorsandheatsinks(see“Removingamicroprocessorandheatsink”onpage270)
Notes:
1.Removethesocketcoversfromthemicroprocessorsocketsonthenewsystemboardand
placethemonthemicroprocessorsocketsofthesystemboardyouareremoving.
2.Donotallowthethermalgreasetocomeincontactwithanything,andkeepeachheat
sinkpairedwithitsmicroprocessorforreinstallation.Contactwithanysurfacecan
compromisethethermalgreaseandthemicroprocessorsocket.Amismatchbetweenthe
microprocessoranditsoriginalheatsinkcanrequiretheinstallationofanewheatsink.
