Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserverispowered-on
mightcausetheservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,
alwaysuseanelectrostatic-dischargewriststraporothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidethe
serverwiththepoweron.
Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoturnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,
anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Toinstallahot-swapfan,completethefollowingsteps.
Step1.Carefullyturntheserveronitssidesothatitislyingflat,withthecoverfacingup.
Step2.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthehot-swapfantoanyunpaintedmetalsurface
ontheserver;then,removethefanfromthepackage.
Step3.Unlockandremovetheleft-sidecover(see“Removingtheleft-sidecover”onpage49).
Step4.Openthefan-lockinghandleonthereplacementfan.
Step5.Insertthefanintothesocketandclosethefan-lockinghandletothelockedposition.
