Step1.Unlocktheleft-sidecover.
Note:Youmustunlocktheleft-sidecovertoopenorremovethebezel.Whenyoulocktheleft-side
cover,itlocksboththecoverandthebezel.
Step2.Openthebezel(see“Openingthebezeldoor”onpage47).
Step3.Removethefillerpanel,ifoneispresent.
Step4.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthediskdrivetoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceon
theserver;then,removethediskdrivefromthepackageandplaceitonastatic-protectivesurface.
Step5.Makesurethatthedrivetrayhandleisintheopenposition.
Step6.Alignthedriveassemblywiththeguiderailinthebay;then,carefullyslidethedriveassemblyinto
thedrivebayuntilthedrivesnapsintoplace.

Step7.Rotatethedrivetrayhandletotheclosedposition.
Step8.Checktheharddiskdrivestatusindicatortomakesurethattheharddiskdriveisoperating
correctly.Afteryoureplaceafailedharddiskdrive,thegreenactivityLEDflashesasthediskspins
up.TheyellowLEDturnsoffafterapproximately1minute.Ifthenewdrivestartstorebuild,the
yellowLEDflashesslowly,andthegreenactivityLEDremainslitduringtherebuildprocess.Ifthe
yellowLEDremainslit,seethe“Harddiskdriveproblems”onpage147
formoreinformation.
