Chapter 4 EI system diagnosis Section 1 Maintenance Precautions
4—3
Battery
The battery used on this motorcycle does not require
maintenance (e.g. electrolyte position check, distilled water
replenishment).
No hydrogen is produced during normal charging.
Overcharging, however, can produce hydrogen.
Therefore, when charging the battery, there must be no
fire or spark source (such as short circuit) nearby.
It should be recharged in good ventilation and
outdoors.
Notice Do not use common batteries to replace
maintenance-free batteries because of their structure and
installation dimensions.
As in Fig.6.1.11..
Connecting battery
When removing the terminal from a battery for
installation or maintenance, remove the negative battery
cable first. As in Fig.6.1.12..
When connecting battery wires, connect the positive
wire first.
As Fig. 6.1.13.
If the wiring terminal is corroded, remove the battery,
add warm water to it, and clean it with a wire brush.
After connecting the battery, lightly grease the battery
connector.
Reattach the protective sleeve to the positive and
negative terminals of the battery.
Do not connect batteries with reverse polarity.
When a reverse power supply is used, this
misconnection can immediately damage components of the
EI system. As in Fig.6.1.14..
Do not remove any battery terminals from a running
engine.
During such disassembly, the damaged counter emf
will be applied to the ECU, which can cause serious
damage.As in Fig.6.1.15..
