DHCPRelayAgent(Option82):AllowsaDynamicHostConfigurationProtocol
(DHCP)relayagent(inthiscasetheHBS)toinsertspecificinformationtoaDHCP
request,andforwardtheinformationtogetherwiththerequesttoaDHCPserver.
Thiscapabilityallowstheresidentialoperator(whichhastheDHCPserver)to
distinguishwhichDHCPIPrequestcamefromwhichHSU.Withthatinformation,the
residentialoperatorcansetrulesregardingIPaddressandresourceallocation.For
example,iftherearetoomanyIPrequestscomingfromoneHSU,itispossibleto
limittheIPaddressesallocatedtothatequipment.
IntheframeworkoftheRADWIN5000,thisworksasfollows:
•TheHSUreceivesDHCPrequestsfromequipmentconnectedtoit.
•TheHSUforwardstheserequeststotheHBS.
•TheHBSappendstheMACaddressoftheHSUandthatoftheHBStothe
message,andforwardstherequestmessagewiththeappendeddatatothe
DHCPserver.
