W
ith
the introduction
of
the Robin
850
a
rear
axle
with
a ratio
of
3·23:1 has been
introduced. The number
of
teeth on the crown
wheel
ha
s been increased
to
42
and the
number
of
teeth
on
the pinion increased
to
13.
The axle is
now
fitted
with
an
oil seal retaining
plate to reduce the po
ssi
bility
of
oil reaching
the brakes. The plate is fitted between the
rear brake backplate and axle end, and is
secured in position by the four set screws and
lockwashers sec
ur
ing the backplate
to
the
axle end
(
Figure
1
).
N
ew
axle hub assemblies and brake drums
have also been introduced. The
hub
has been
modified
by
the addition
of
a brake drum
locating collar fixed
to
one
of
the wheel studs.

accommodate this modification the brake
drum has had one
of
the wheel stud locating
holes enlarged. This
will
ensure that whenever
the drum is removed in service it can only be
refitted
on
the same stud
s,
thereby
red
ucing
the possibility
of
brake judder.
Routine maintenance
The axle breather hole should be cleaned out.
and the axle oil level topped-
