Cooling
system Section E
Diagnosis
If
faulty readings are suspected on the
temperature gauge, check the gauge and sender
unit
as
follows:
With the ignition switched on, disconnect the
wire from the thermostat sender unit. The
temperature gauge
needle should then be at the
cold mark. Then earth the sender
unit
wire.
The temperature gauge
needle should then
be
at the
hot
mark, thus indicating that the gauge
is
functioning
correctly. This
would
indicate
that incorrect readings were due
to
a faulty
sender unit,
which
will
need replacement, a
fault in the wiring, or loose connections. If,
however, the fault lies
with
the temperature
gauge, the
unit
will
have
to
be
replaced (see
Section T).
