3 Planning guidelines
3.1 Sequence of steps: system selection to commissioning
Changes regarding the application
If the information regarding your application submitted with your purchase order has
changed, or if a device is to be used for an application other than the one that was originally
intended, please contact your local sales representative or our project planning department
to determine whether the device(s) can be used for the new application, and whether a re-
adjustment or reparameterization is necessary.
The following steps are generally carried out before the measuring system is commissioned.

â– Installation preparations (carried out by the customer)
The following preparations are usually carried out by the customer (see chapter 3.3,
page 23):
â– Mounting the flange (see chapter 3.3.3, page 24)
– Preparations for installing the purge air unit (see chapter 3.3.4, page 26)
– Laying the signal and power supply cables to the measuring point (see chapter 3.3.5,
page 26)
– Preparations for installing the evaluation unit (see chapter 3.3.6, page 26)
– If necessary, prepare the signal cables for the interfaces to the peripheral equipment
(see chapter 3.4, page 26).
â– Installing the device
To speed up the startup process, the following components are usually installed and
ready for operation before the commissioning date (see also chapter 4, page 29).
– Purge air unit
– Evaluation unit
â– Commissioning
The actual startup procedure is carried out by trained personnel or by the SICK MAIHAK
Customer Service department. This procedure is described in chapter 6, page 45. The
main activities carries out here include application-related adjustment on the GM35 sys-
tem.
