Shielding
Cable shields: The shields of the cables for the analog signals as well as the
shields of the PROFIBUS DP cables are to be clamped and grounded suitably di-
rectly before the module. If grounding is not carried out until the strain relief, any
high interference currents possible are discharged via the housing, thus impairing
the immunity to interference of the module.
Unshielded cables can be used for the digital process signals.
Housing: The module housing must be grounded in order to achieve EMC protec-
tion. For grounding it is sufficient if the module is mounted on grounded DIN rails
(DIN rail mounting) or on a grounded sheet (screw mounting).
If there are not sufficient grounded mounting possibilities, implement the grounding
separately. To this purpose there is a grounding screw on the front (below the mo-
dule power supply) by means of which a grounded cable can be connected.
For further information on configuring and implementing an overall system (light-
ning protection, grounding, etc.) please refer to the SIMATIC PCS 7 overall docu-
mentation on CD–ROM (see ST PCS 7 catalog).
Cabinet Technique
The AddFEM can be installed in cabinets together with other distributed peripheral
devices or higher–level units from the spectrum of SIMATIC M7, SIMATIC S7,
SIMATIC PCS 7 or SIMADYN D. A special cabinet design technique of Siemens
has been optimized specifically for these system families.
The cabinets consisting of system–specific and system–neutral modules conform
to the CE requirements. This means they conform to the guidelines for electroma-
gnetic compatibility specified in the EMC act. They offer secure protection against
unauthorized access, mechanical influences, impurities and corrosion.
They can be adapted excellently to different plant types and sizes thanks to their
modularity and the resulting variability.
