4.5 Switching on and testing the HMI device

Note
If the KP8F or KP32F is operated with fail-safe components, check before each
commissioning, whether the required sensor evaluation is set correctly according to the
circuit. See section "KP8F – Setting the fail-safe properties (Page 77)" and "Setting the fail-
safe propertie
s (Page 89)".

Procedure
1. Switch on the power supply.
After starting the HMI device, all LEDs will illuminate corresponding to the setting. The
default illumination time is 5 s.

Note
As long as the light test is executed, no keyboard entry will be transferred to the
connected controller.
If the HMI device does not start, it is possible the wires on the connector have been
crossed. Check the connected wires and change the connections if necessary.
2. Press each light button after one another.
The LED of the illuminated pushbutton goes off while it is pressed.
3. Applies to KP8F and KP32F:
If fail-safe components are connected, you must conduct a function test of the fail-safe
components each time you turn them on.

NOTICE

Switching off the device
The plant can enter the fail-safe state when you switch off a PROFIsafe device, depending
on the configuration.
Before you switch off the device, check its integration into the control program.

If you want to switch off the HMI device, interrupt the power supply. The HMI device is not
equipped with an off switch.
