dB levels displayed on Tango will not be 100% accurate. The pan position displayed on Tango jumps to
the nearest 20%.
11.4.3 Send Names
Send names are also received in four character format. They are only updated when you are changing
the active send slot. Send names are always greyed out as HUI doesn't automatically notify Tango
about the send name changes.
11.4.4 Send On/Off & Pre/Post
At any one time only send On/Off states or Pre/Post states can be up to date for the active send row.
11.5 Inserts, Dynamics & EQ
11.5.1 Insert Names
Only the Tango active channel can display up to date insert names. After you load a Pro Tools session if
you haven't selected a particular channel it won't display any insert names. Once you make the channel
active it will display the names of the plug-in inserted on that channel. At this point if you select
another channel former channel's insert names will turn grey, indicating that they are no longer up to
date. Note that Tango only knows about the first 4 inserts of a given channel.
11.5.2 Plug-in Selection
The main way to select a plug-in is by using a mouse. Simply click on the insert name on the Pro Tools
channel mixer. Tango will instantly jump to that channel. At this point tap on the insert block (if it's not
already active).
Another way to select a plug-in is by tapping on an insert block on the desired channel. This method
only works with the first 8 channels of the 32 channels Tango is controlling at the time. This is due to
the old bug in the HUI protocol that Digidesign (Avid) never fixed.
11.5.3 Plug-in Parameters
Once you select a plug-in its parameters get mapped to Tango encoders. HUI protocol only provides up
to 8 parameters per page. The parameter names are limited to 4 characters. The parameters 2, 4, 6 and 8
can only be toggled between their min and max values. This works fine for Pro Tools plug-in (EQ,
compressor etc.) as the parameters with even indexes can only have 2 possible values. However most
third-party plug-ins don't take this limitation into account.
11.5.4 EQ
If there's a Pro Tools' 7-band EQ inserted on the active channel then the EQ block will light up when
it's selected. However, it will not fully come to life like it does when Tango is controlling Nuendo or
Logic. The EQ block can only show up to date information about a single band at any one time. This
means that if you are adjusting an EQ band from the Pro Tools' GUI that is not the active one on Tango
the changes will not be displayed on Tango.
LPF and HPF slope parameters can only be adjusted by rotating the corresponding encoders clockwise.
The encoders emulate button presses that is why it doesn't work in anti-clockwise direction.
11.5.5 Dynamics
If there's a Pro Tools' compressor inserted on the active channel then the Dynamics block will light up
when it's selected. Similarly to the EQ block it will not fully come to life like it does when Tango is
controlling Nuendo or Logic. Only Ratio/Knee or Threshold/Gain parameter pair can display up to date
values at any one time.
