Printing Materials
Objet260printersproducemodelsbyjettingthinlayersofprintingmaterials
onthebuildtray,untilthecompletemodelisformed.Twotypesofmaterial
areusedinthisprocess:
•Modelmaterial—whichmakesupthefinishedmodel
•Supportmaterial—whichfillsgapsandspacesinthemodelduring
printing,andisremovedafterprinting
Forup-to-dateinformationaboutPolyJetprintingmaterialsandtheir
properties,gotohttp://www.stratasys.com/materials/polyjet.
Storage
MaterialsusedforprintingmodelswithObjet260printersaremadeofresins,
whicharecomposedofreactivemonomersandoligomers.Althoughprinting
materialsaresuppliedinsealed,UV-proofcartridges,caremustbetaken
whenstoringandhandlingthem.Followtheseguidelinestoprotectoperators
andtheenvironment,andtoensureoptimumresults.
•Toensureproductstability,donotallowthesematerialstocomeinto
contactwithmetal.Plasticsmadefrommonomer-solublesubstances(such
aspolystyreneorpolyvinylchloride)arenotsuitableforstoringPolyJet
printingmaterials.
•Whennotinuse,keepmaterialcartridgestightlysealedtoprevent
contamination,theeffectsofexposuretoUVradiation,andaccidental
spillage.
•Storematerialcartridgesindoors,inadryareawithadequateventilation,
between15–25degreesCelsius(59-77degreesFahrenheit).Ifexposedto
heatorflames,cartridgesmightburstorignite.
•Signsofprematurepolymerizationinmaterialcartridgesincludebulging,
leaking,theemissionofheat,andunusualodor.Exposuretoheatcan
causeresintogelinthecartridges.
•Makesurethatmaterialcartridgesarestoredinaccordancewithalllocal
regulationsandotherapplicablerequirements.
Shelf Life
Materialsusedforproducingmodelshavealimitedshelflife.Theexpirydate
onthelabelisvalidwhenproperlystoredinanundamaged,unopened
cartridge.Alwaysrotateyourstock,sothatthecartridgewiththeearliestdate
isusedfirst.
Exposure to
Light
Ifprintingmaterialsarenotintheirsealedcartridges,makesuretoshield
themfromsunlightandothersourcesofUVradiation,suchasfluorescent
andmercury-vaporlights.ExposuretoUVradiationcausesanincreasein
viscosityand,eventually,solidification.
