2.3.6 Development
Development is a process to make the toner in the developer material adhere to the surface of the
photoconductive drum. The amount of the toner which adheres varies depending on the surface
potential of the photoconductive drum.
[Developer material]
The developer material is comprised of a mixture of toner and carrier. The toner mainly consists of resin
and coloring and is charged with the friction by means of stirring.
[Magnetic roller]
The magnetic roller is deployed in the developer unit. By arranging the south and north poles inside the
magnetic roller as shown below, the developer material forms a brush-like fluff which contacts the
surface of the photoconductive drum. A magnetic brush development technique, which is caused by the
magnetic force lines generated between the north and south poles, has been adopted.
