2.3.8 Transfer belt cleaning
After transferring is finished, there is a little toner remaining on the transfer belt. This will cause a
lowering of the image quality. Therefore, scraping off of this residual toner is required. This residual
toner is scraped off by contacting the edge face of the cleaning blade to the surface of the transfer belt.

2.3.9 Photoconductive drum cleaning
After transferring is finished, there is a little toner remaining on the photoconductive drum. This will
cause a lowering of the image quality. Therefore, scraping off of this residual toner is required. This
residual toner is scraped off by contacting the edge face of the cleaning blade to the surface of the
photoconductive drum.

Discharging is a process to return the photoconductive drum to its initial status before the next charging
process. Light is exposed in order to eliminate the charge remaining on the entire surface of the
photoconductive drum. With this process, the photoconductive drum can be arranged for the next
image forming.
