2.2 Scanning Section
2.2.1 Scanner
Scanning is a process of reflecting light to an original and converting its reflected light into electrical
signals.
[ 1 ] Scanning method
[ 1-1 ] CCD
The light reflected from the original is directed to the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and this optical
image information is converted into electrical signals (image signals). Those signals are then
transmitted to the image processing section.

[ 1-2 ] CIS
The CIS (Contact Image Sensor) embeds the LEDs and CMOS sensor in it. The processing from light
emitting to an original through scanning its reflected light into the CMOS sensor is carried out by the
CIS only. The CIS has features such as the shallow depth of focus and high sensitivity.
