3.2 Preventive Maintenance
3.2.1 Overview of Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance entails performing the appropriate inspections in order to prevent problems
occurring. According to the maintenance contract, not only the regular inspection and cleaning but also
replacement of the parts at specified intervals are carried out. Preventive maintenance parts are
prepared as an individual part as well as a packed kit form (PM kit).
3.2.2 Preventive maintenance parts (PM parts)
Preventive maintenance parts (PM parts) refer to the parts that need replacing on a regular basis in
order to maintain the optimum performance of the MFP. They are listed together with their replacement
cycle in the Service Manual for each model.
The PM cycle is determined based on the PM part with the shortest replacement cycle.
3.2.3 Refreshment
The life of the MFP is defined based on the number of pages printed or years of use. Generally, the
MFP can be used up to the end of its life. However, if it is used beyond its life within the period of the
maintenance contract, the continuous use of the MFP is made possible by performing the
refreshment.
Refreshment is advisable when the number of printed sheets has reached the specified one.
Besides the replacement of consumables, the application of grease to the driving sections as well as
the inspection and cleaning of each section in the MFP are needed.
3.2.4 Conceptual drawing
The figure below shows the relationship between the replacement timing of the consumables, the
preventive maintenance and the refreshment. Since this just shows an example, refer to the Service
Manual for the model in use for further information regarding the refreshment and the PM cycles.
