2.8.8 Replacing Axis 4 Reduction Gear
• Handle the reduction gear with extreme care. If it drops or an unusually large
external force is exerted on it, the reduction gear cannot function any further.
• Be sure to tighten the coupling connecting the reduction gear and motor shaft.
1) Remove the axis 2 arm cover. (See Para. 2.4.1.)
2) Disconnect the axis 4 motor and motor base, axis 3 motor and motor base, and
axes 3 and 4 timing belts from the arm 2, referring to Steps 1) to 6) inclusive of
Para. 2.6.4 above.
3) Remove the cap attached to the lateral side of the axis 4 reduction gear, then
loosen the coupling bolt (M4 × 12) securing the axis 4 motor shaft and the input
shaft of the axis 4 reduction gear.
4) Remove the four (4) bolts (M4 × 16) securing the motor, and draw out the motor
upward.
5) Secure the pulley, using the hole for knock which is machined on the axis 4
motor pulley, remove the six (6) bolts (M4 × 16), then disconnect the pulley.
6) Remove the four (4) bolts (M5 × 16) securing the reduction gear to the motor
base, then dismount the reduction gear.
