FlyinginDifficultTerrain-SteepTerrain
Forsteepterrain(slope>100%or45deg)youneedtobeextracarefulinflightplanning.Thespatial
resolutionoftheelevationdata(SRTMdatabase)is30mandthesteepertheterrain,thehigherthe
uncertaintyofthedata.Moreover,overshootsofWingtraOneinturns(especiallyinhighwinds)can
leadtosubstantialriskinsteepterrain.Ifyoucanafford,pleaseconsiderusinghigherGSD(flyhigher
aboveground)thannormally.Furthermore,itisrecommendedtosetthegroundclearanceparameter
toahighervaluetoaccountfortheadditionaluncertainty.ManuallycheckpointsalongtheFlightPlan
thatcomeclosetoground,rocks,orotherobstacles.
FlyinginDifficultTerrain-BVLOSbehindMountainsorBuildings
Forthespecialcase,whereyouhavetoflybehindamountainortallbuilding(i.e.thereisamountain
orbuildinginbetweenyouandtheflyingdrone,whichishigherthantheflightaltitude),youhaveto
adjustthe"minimumRTHaltitude"toensureWingtraOnewillnotcollidewiththemountainincase
RTHistriggeredwhilebeingbehindthemountain.Adjust"minimumRTHaltitude"totheheight
differencebetweentakeoffandthehighestpointofthemountainplusasufficientmargin(e.g.plus
50m).Inordertoperformsuchaflight,youlikelyhavetoincreasethe"connectionlosstimeout"and
willflyblindly.Suchaflightisconsideredhighlyrisky-makesureyouknowwhatyouaredoing.
GroundElevationOffsetFeature
Incaseyoudisableterrainfollowingforaspecificarea,youcanmakeuseofthegroundelevation
offsetfeature.WithoutterrainfollowingWingtraOnewillflyeveryareaonaconstantaltitude.Inorder
toaccountfordifferencesingroundelevation,youcansetagroundelevationoffset.Ifyoutakeoffe.g.
onahillandwanttomapfieldsthatlie50mbelowHome,youcansetthe"groundelevationoffset"for
therespectiveareato-50m.Likethat,WingtraOnewilladjustitsFlightPlantoachievethedesired
GSDandoverlapsatthespecifiedgroundlevel.Beawarethatpointsthatlieaboveyourspecified
groundwillbemappedwithbetter(lower)GSDbutwithworse(lower)overlapsthansetinplanning.
FlightDirection
Theselectionofthemostappropriateflightdirectionrequirestheconsiderationofdifferent
parameters.Flyingparalleltothelongestedgedecreasesthenumberofturns,whichleadstothe
minimalflightduration.Withthisstrategy,themaximalcoveragecanbereached.Incaseofnotable
wind,itisfurtheradvisabletoflyorthogonallytothewinddirection.Thus,thefrontoverlapisnotbeing
influencedbythewindandregularstitchingisensured.Anothermethodtoimprovestitching,
especiallyforhomogeneousareas,isnottoflyalignedwithlinearstructures(suchasroadsor
cultivatedfields).Asaconsequence,thenumberofsimilarlookingimagescanbereduced.Themost
importantfact,whichneedstobeconsideredwhenchoosingtheflightdirection,isthatthereis
enoughspacefortheturns,sothattheydonotinterferewithobjectscloseby.Finallyitis
recommendabletoflyalongasloperatherthaninitsdirection.Awaveformofthegroundelevationin
thealtitudegraphindicatesthelatter,whileaflatgroundwithstepsattheturnaroundswouldbeideal.
