Chapter 3: Configuration 3.6 Setting the Configuration
493-0736-11 (6-2) 149
TD = L
p
= 20 s
Note: When setting the controller parameter TD you actually set the value of the
Lp (Dead-time) parameter, not the Derivative Time. In the menu system however,
the notation TD is used for the dead-time of the pPI controller.
Notes:
With three state pulse output positional feedback must be used for the
autotuning process to work. Because the pPI controller does not use the
Autotuner, this function will be disconnected when pPI controller is
configured.
If output signal tracking is used, precautions must be taken to ensure that the
output signal does not vary because of the tracking function while autotuning
is in progress.
pPI Control is available only in the ECA600.
When ControllerDynamics is set to pPI the Autotuning feature is not available.
Dead-time design. This is a special PID controller where the Autotuner adapts
the gain and integration time for the dead-time process, i.e. low gain and short
integration time. This controller should not be used for integrating processes.
Starting the Tuning Process
If tuning has been made available in the ECA controller configuration it may be
started at any time. Proceed as follows:
1 Press the Next key until the top line of the display shows To tune press
.
2 To start the Tuning process, press the OK key as instructed by the text in the
display.
During Autotuning the bottom line of the display indicates each stage of the
process by showing the text Tuning phase 1, then Tuning phase 2, then
Tuning phase 3, etc. This is shown as white text on a black background
across the width of the bottom line. On completion of the tuning the display
returns to normal.
Notes:
Before you activate Tuning, ensure that the difference between the set point and
the process value is small, otherwise the tuning may fail.
