6. In the message that appears, choose the type of microtiter plate being used for pin
conditioning (prepared in step 1):
96 MTP – 96-well microtiter plate
384 MTP – 384-well microtiter plate
The pin array is lowered into the microtiter that contains NaOH for 10 minutes. A timer
displays the time remaining for the operation (Figure 4.36). Wait for the operation to
complete.
NOTE
If you tap cancel, the pins are put through a rinse-clean cycle before the operation is canceled.
Wait for the rinse-clean cycle to complete.
7. Remove the microtiter plate from the processing deck when the conditioning cycle is
done.
8. Properly dispose of the NaOH in the microtiter plate. Refer to the MSDS provided by
your NaOH supplier for disposal instructions.
9. Perform pin priming (optional). See page 29 for details.
Drain the Vacuum Tank Drain the vacuum tank every three months or 100 SpectroCHIP Arrays processed
(whichever comes first).

WARNING! You will be handling NaOH in this procedure. For safe handling procedures, refer to
the MSDS provided by your NaOH supplier. At a minimum: 1) wear protective clothing (laboratory
gloves, eye protection, and laboratory coat), 2) take extreme caution to avoid eye or skin contact,
3) have adequate ventilation of your laboratory, and 4) have appropriate spill kits readily
accessible. If skin or eye contact occurs, flush with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes.
To drain the vacuum tank:
1. Shut down the instrument (see page 24 for instructions).
2. Open the front access panel (see page 10 for instructions).
3. Set the vacuum vent switch to Open.
