124 Agilent 7890 Series Troubleshooting
6 GC Power On and Communication Symptoms
GC Cannot Communicate with a Configured MS or HS
1 First, check that GC to MS (or GC to HS) communications are
enabled.
For an MS (5977A, 7000C, 7010):
a Press [MS/Aux Det].
b Scroll to MS Communication.
For an MS (5977B):
a Press [Config][MS/Aux Det].
b Scroll to Lvds communication.
For a HS:
a Press [Front Injector] or [Back Injector] as appropriate.
b Scroll to HS Communication.
If the MS Communication/HS Communication/Lvds communication
entry reads Off, press [On/Yes].
If the entry reads Connecting but does not connect, continue
troubleshooting.
2 Check that the GC IP address is correctly entered and correct
as needed. Go to Options > Communications.
3 5977A, 7000C, 7010: Check that the MS or HS IP address is
correctly entered into the GC. Under Options >
Communications, scroll to Mass Spec., Fr. Headspace, or Bk.
Headspace to see the current IP address. Compare this entry
with the IP address shown on the MS or HS display.
4 5977B: Check that the MS IP address is correctly entered and
correct as needed. Go to [Config] > [MS/Aux Det].
5 5977A, 7000C, 7010: If using an MS, use the MS keypad to
check the MS and GC IP addresses entered into the MS. They
must exactly match those entered into the GC.
6 If using a HS, use the HS keypad to check the HS and GC IP
addresses entered into the HS. They must exactly match
those entered into the GC.
7 If the addresses are correct in both the GC and the MS or HS,
ping each instrument from a computer on the same local
LAN. (See “PC Cannot Communicate with GC” for more
information about the PC ping command.)
8 If using an Agilent data system, check the GC, HS, and MS IP
addresses entered into the data system software. Again,
these must exactly match the values entered into each
instrument.
