Installation
Connecting the Transmitters to the Sensors
Note
The coaxial interconnecting cables and the transmitter should be mounted in
such a manner as to avoid large temperature changes such as those
encountered in the path of dewar vents.
1. Carefully remove the sensor from the sh
ipping container and
remove all packaging
material.
Note
If there is any shipping damage, save all packing material and contact the
shipping representative to file a damage claim. Do not return the instrument
to AMI unless prior authorization has been received.
2. Install the sensor in the vessel using the specified fitting of th
e
sensor.
Caution
- Ensure the sensor is mounted with the top vent hole located inside of the
cryostat.
- A
void installing in a location where icing may occur. Ice form
ations or
moistur
e buildup on the BNC connector may cause
the sensor to short out
in
dicating a higher liquid level than actually exists.
- Moistur
e or contaminants in any of the BNC coaxial connectors can sh
ort
out the se
nsor and cause measurement errors. A pack of non-co
nductive
electrical
connection lubricant (ECL or “Dielectric Tune-up Grease”)
has
been
included with the liquid level sensor packaging to reduce the possibilit
y
o
f this occurring. If desired, apply a small amount of ECL to any of the BN
C
connectors
that may be exposed to moisture. Mate the ECL-coated connectors
then remove any excess ECL from the outside of the connector.
Added
pr
otection can be achieved by covering the ECL-coated connec
tions with a
sh
ort section of heat-shrink tubing.
- M
SDS sheets for the ECL are available upon request.
- Exer
cise care when installing the sensor since dents, crimps, bends or othe
r
physi
cal distortions in the thin wall capacitor will
change electrical
char
acteristics possibly causing calibration errors and/or disruption of
proper instrument operation.
