Cable termination 120
The maximum possible speed of rotation of an incremental encoder (sine-cosine) is limited by the cut-off
frequency of the encoder interface input filter. This lies at 300kHz. Hence it follows that there is a theoretic
possible maximum speed according to the formula:
theoretically maximum speed [RPM] = n
max,t heoret ic all y
= cut-off frequency * 60 / encoder PPR.
Example: Incremental encoder (sine-cosine) with 1024 PPR counts.
n
,max,t heoretic al l y
= 300 kHz * 60 / 1024 = 17578 RPM
D.6.1.3 Hip erfae absolute eno der interfae
Supply +8V
Load max. 250mA
Input level 1V
pp
Cable termination 120
The maximum possible encoder speed of an HIPERFACE encoder is determined by the same boundary con-
ditions as at the sine wave incremental encoder. Further information is found under «Sine wave incremental
encoder interface» from page 175.
D.6.1.4 Square wave inremental eno der interfae
Supply +5V
Load max. 250mA
Input level RS422
Cable termination 120
The maximum possible encoder speed of a square wave incremental encoder is determined with the same
boundary conditions as with the sine wave incremental encoder. Further information is found under «Sine
wave incremental encoder interface» from page 175.
