Engineoilviscosity
Asageneralrule,multi-gradeoilsmustbeused.Inclosed
roomsheatedtotemperatures>5°C(41°F),itisalso
possibletousesingle-gradeoils.Astheviscosityoflubri-
catingoilsvariesaccordingtothetemperature,thetem-
peratureoftheplacewheretheenginewillbeusedisde-
cisiveforchoosingtheoilviscositygrade(SAEgrade).
Accordingtothediagramreportedheretotheside,itis
possibletochoosethenecessaryoilviscosityforeach
temperatureinordertoguaranteeanoptimumoperation
oftheengine.Ifacertainoiltypeisusedtotemperatures
lowerthanthoseindicatedinthediagram,itcouldnega-
tivelyaffectthestartingcapacityoftheengine,butwithout
damagingtheengineitself.
Theuseofacertaintypeofoilattemperaturesabove
thoseindicatedinthediagrammustbelimitedasmuchas
possible,inordertominimizethepossibleweardamage
causedtotheengine.
Syntheticoilsprovideabetterperformancebecauseof
theirbetterstabilityasregardstemperatureandoxidation.
