Trenching
Trenchingisthebasicbackhoeexcavatingoperation.
Otherdiggingoperationsaremerelyvariationsofthis
basicfunction(llingthebucket,dumpingthebucket
andmovingthemachineforward).Whiletrenching,it
isgenerallyimportanttomaintainaleveltrenchbottom.
Thisisaccomplishedbysettingthebucketatthecorrect
angleofapproach.
Pullonthedipperlever(1)tomaintainthecorrectcutting
angleasthebucketiscrowdinginapplyinglightpressure
totheright.
Atthesametime,pullontheliftlever(2)torelievedown
pressureandkeepthebucketinthesameplane.
Continuethetrenchbymovingforward.Movingtoofarwill
requireexcessivedownpressurefordigging,plushand
clean-upofthetrenchbottom.Itisbettertomovealesser
amountthantomovetoofar.

However,ifthisisnotpracticable,usetheloaderorback-
hoeattachmenttocutalevelsurfaceintotheslopefor
theuphillwheelandstabilizer,anddepositthespoilfrom
theslotontothedownhillsidefortheoppositewheeland
stabilizer.Whendiggingalwaysdepositthespoilfromthe
trenchontheuphillside.
NOTICE:Whenexcavatingacrossaslopeitisnotpossi-
bletomakeuseoftheloaderbucketforaddedstability.
Donotoverloadthebucketandavoidswingingaloaded
buckettothedownhillsideoftheslope.
