Control Unit IV Reference Manual Troubleshooting

Backup error
1. If the message Backup error appears when you use the
sync
command, then the unit
you are connected to has not detected the presence of a backup unit. Check the
synchronization cable and make sure the backup unit is powered on and working.
2. If the problem persists, contact Electrolines technical support department.
6.5 Troubleshooting subscriber status errors
6.5.1 Data uploads
If an error occurs while you are uploading data to the Control Unit, you may have incorrect
port settings, invalid data or a timeout problem. To correct data upload problems:
1. Check if the Control Units port is set up with the right data parameters. We strongly
recommend using hardware flow control on connections with the Control Unit to avoid
problems. If the unit is not using hardware flow control, you must set a delay of at least
100 ms between each line that is sent or set the connection speed to 1200 bps (see
Chapter 5). This delay is required so that the unit can process the line it has just received.
2. If the port settings are correct but the message Invalid format or Checksum error
appears, check the format of the data file (see Chapter 5). The data file starts with 32 Us
and ends with double zeroes (00), as in the following example:
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
S000001818181818181818181818181818181870
S0001000000000000000000000000000000000??
S00020181818181818181818181818181818186>00
3. If there are no problems with the data, you may have exceeded the time allowed for
transmitting the file. You will see the message Timeout encountered. Try to send the
file again. Once you enter the
upload
command, you have 30 seconds to begin sending
the file (see Chapter 5). When the 30-second delay expires, the timeout message appears.
4. If you are still unable to upload data, contact Electrolines technical support department.
Note that updating subscriber statuses requires a long processing time. While the Control
Unit is processing the new data, the CPU cannot receive other requests. However, the
Control Unit continues to transmit the subscriber statuses in its memory to the cable network.
