Control Unit IV Reference Manual
529-0004 Ver.3 4-1
4. SUBSCRIBER STATUSES
This chapter provides all procedures for setting the subscriber statuses manually from a
terminal so that the Control Unit can then transmit them to the CATV network. The manual
commands change the tier status of a tap without using the billing system. Any changes that
are not temporary should be entered in the billing system to ensure up-to-date billing
information.
Important:
The Terminal protocol is used in the following examples. For more information on other
protocols, contact Electroline’s technical support department.
The Electroline addressable system controls a variable number of service tiers for each
subscriber address. A subscriber address consists of up to seven digits, the first five being a
group number and the last two being a tap number. Note that in the Electroline system, the
tap number refers to an addressable port. The tap number can be from 1 to 64 in a one- or
two-tier system (OBP), and from 1 to 16 in all multi-tier systems (more than two tiers).
4.1 Opening a session on the Control Unit
In order to use the commands in this chapter, you must open an RS-232 connection with the
Control Unit on one of its COM ports. In a redundancy system, you must use COM 3.
Refer to Chapters 2 and 3 for instructions on connecting a terminal to the Control Unit and
on opening an RS-232 connection on a COM port.
