3.7.5 RF watchdog settings for redundancy systems
The role of the watchdog is to monitor the Control Units modulator. It samples the messages
on the RF carrier that is received on the
TEST IN
and checks for errors.
In redundancy systems where the RF watchdog is enabled, the Control Unit allows a toggle
to the backup unit if an error occurs.
Important:
Make sure that the Control Units test ports are connected with a short coaxial cable jumper
that runs from the
TEST OUT
connector to the
TEST IN
connector on each Control Unit.
To program the RF watchdog:
1. In the Control Unit IV setup screen menu, select the RF watchdog option by typing

the SET) prompt and then pressing <Enter>. The following window appears:

Enter new RF watchdog preset: 254
2. Type
254
and press <Enter>. The Control Units system information and RF watchdogs
settings are now displayed, followed by the Control Unit IV setup screen.
RF watchdog: OK
Version:2 Carrier: detected
Config: enabled, bit stream from RF on TEST IN
On error, toggle the redundancy circuitry
3. Save the new RF watchdog settings (see section 3.6.10) by typing
s
at the SET) prompt.
This restarts the Control Unit with the new settings.
4. Reset the redundancy circuitry by powering off both units, and then power them back on
one at a time.
