3.6.6 Setting up the COM ports
Only the COM 1 and COM 2 parameters can be modified. COM 3 is used for setting up and
troubleshooting the Control Unit. For this reason, you cannot modify this communication
ports settings.
COM 1 is generally used to connect to a billing system or other type of host computer.
COM 2 may be connected to a secondary host computer, or it may be used to connect two
identical Control Units that have the same setup in a redundancy system. In this situation,
COM 2 takes on its preset values. If you try to change the settings, the message Access
denied will be displayed. The preset values for COM 2 in a redundancy system are shown in
Table 3-3.

To set up the communication ports:
1. Access the setup screen (see section 3.6.5)
2. At the SET) prompt, enter the number of the communication port (1 or 2) to modify and
press <Enter> to display the COM port setup screen.

Complete the instructions in the following sections to set up the selected COM port. Repeat
the procedures for the other COM port. If you have two identical Control Units in a
redundancy system, you must set up the COM ports (COM 1 on both units and COM 2 on
