GENERAL SERVICE PROCEDURES

minimum or maximum condition.
NOTE: If a component fails to meet the specifications, it
is necessary to replace or refinish. If the component can
be refinished, wear limits are provided as an aid to
making a decision. Any component that fails to meet
specifications and cannot be refinished must be
replaced.
Camshaft Journal Diameter
• Measure each camshaft journal diameter in two
directions.
• If it is out of specification, replace as necessary.
Camshaft Journal Clearance
NOTE: The camshaft journals must meet specifications
before checking camshaft journal clearance.
• Measure each camshaft bearing in two directions.
• Subtract the camshaft journal diameter from the
camshaft bearing diameter
Camshaft Lobe Surface
• Inspect camshaft lobes for pitting or damage in the
active area. Minor pitting is acceptable outside the
active area
.

Active Area
