Bearing Inspection
Inspect bearings for the following defects. Possible
causes are shown:
• Cratering – fatigue failure (A)
• Spot polishing – improper seating (B)
• Scratching – dirty (C)
• Base exposed – poor lubrication (D)
• Both edges worn – journal damaged (E)
• One edge worn – journal tapered or bearing not
seated (F)
Roller Follower Inspection
• Inspect the roller for flat spots or scoring. If any
damage is found, inspect the camshaft lobes and
hydraulic lash adjusters for damage.
Hydraulic Lash Adjuster Inspection
• Inspect the hydraulic lash adjuster and roller for
damage. If any damage is found, inspect the
camshaft lobes and valves for damage.
