(2) Servicing – charging the battery FG Forte
CAUTION
THE RECOMMENDED TEMPERATURE FOR CHARGING
THE BATTERY IS IN A RANGE OF +5 TO +30 °C. AT A
LOWER TEMPERATURE THAN 5 °C OR HIGHER THAN
30 °C, THE BATTERY ISN´T FULLY CHARGED OR IS
OVERHEATED, WHICH REDUCES THE BATTERY SERVICE
LIFE.
At a temperature of 5 to 30 °C, the charging voltage reaches a value of 2,25 V to 2,30 V /
cell. The batteries for a cyclical application use the method of constant voltage with a
limited current for charging. At a temperature of 20 to 25 °C, the charging voltage of the
battery must be 2,40 V per a cell; the initial charging current mustn´t be higher than 0,2 C
/ 10 A and the battery is fully charged in about 24 hours. If the value of a charging current
remains unchanged for 3 hours in the final phase of charging, it means that the battery is
fully charged.
The discharging capacity of the battery is related to the temperature. At a lower
temperature, the discharged capacity is lower, at a higher temperature, the discharged
capacity is higher. Too high temperature may cause a reduction of the battery service life.
The ideal operating temperature of the battery is between 20 to 25 °C.
If the airplane isn´t in the operation more than one month, remove the battery and keep it
in an appropriate place. Always store a fully charged battery at a temperature of 20 °C.
The daily discharging rate is less than 0,1% of the nominal capacity of the battery.
Regularly charge the battery up to the full capacity of charging once a month.
Procedure of battery charging:
(a) Switch the electrical network off and remove the battery (see par. 2. F (3)).
(b) Clean the battery contacts and connect the charging device. Be careful with the
polarity! Avoid the inversion of power supply polarity of the battery!
(c) Charging voltage at a constant temperature of 25 °C is:
1 Operating cycle from 14,5 to 14,9 V.
2 Emergency cycle from 13,6 to 13,8 V.
3 Maximum charging current is 6 A (FG12150) or 8 A (FG12200).
(d) Disconnect the charging device.
(e) Install the battery (see par. 2 F.(4)).
(3) Removal – battery FG Forte
(a) Switch off the master switch.
(b) Remove the engine cowlings (Section 71-10).
CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT YOU DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE
POLE AT FIRST.
(c) Disconnect the cables (3, Fig. 24-10) from the battery contacts (1). At first
disconnect the negative pole:
