E. Brake fluid change
Brake fluid thickens during operation of the airplane and absorbs water. This condition causes
malfunctions of the brake system. It is not possible to determine when the malfunction occurs.
Period for the brake fluid replacement is mentioned in Section 05-30.
(1) Procedure
(a) Align the airplane in a horizontal position (Section 08-10).
(b) Remove the upper engine cowling (Section 71-10).
(c) Remove cap from the brake fluid tank (9, Fig. 12-1).
(d) Unscrew the brake hoses on brake cylinders of the landing gear wheels.
(e) Put a suitable vessel below the brake cylinders.
(f) Step repeatedly on the pedals to remove the brake fluid from the system.
(g) Attach the brake hoses to the brake cylinders.
(h) Loosen the bleeding screw in the brake cylinder (Fig. 12-3).
(i) Fill the system with brake fluid (see par. 5 C(1)).
(j) Install the cap on the brake fluid tank (9).
(k) Install the upper engine cowling (Section 71-10).
