Groove Synthesis
LIN FM AMT FROM OSC (1,2, or 3): (0-127) Frequency modulation or FM,
allows one oscillator (the modulator in FM synthesis terms) to modulate
the frequency of another oscillator (the carrier). This creates complex
harmonics called sidebands. The 3rd Wave features linear FM like that
found in classic DX-style synths. In such synths, sine waves are used
for both the carrier and modulator. Although sine waves often produce
more predictable harmonic results, the 3rd Wave allows you to use any
wavetable/waveshape for even more complex timbres.
The following table shows the modulator/carrier relationship between the
oscillators.
Carrier Modulator
Oscillator 1 Oscillator 2
Oscillator 2 Oscillator 3
Oscillator 3 Oscillator 1
Turning up
lin fm amt fm for Oscillator 1 causes it to be modulated by
oscillator 2, turning up FM for Oscillator 2 causes it to be modulated by
Oscillator 3, and so on.
REVERSE: (On. Off) Set reverse on or off for key to waves. See key to
waves for more information.
PITCH ON/OFF: (On. Off) Pressing soft button 3 in the misc screen toggles
keyboard pitch tracking on/off for the selected oscillator. When set to on,
the selected oscillator functions normally, changing its pitch according to
notes you play on the keyboard. When set to off, the selected oscillator
does not change its pitch. Instead, it stays xed at the pitch set with the
pitch and fine parameters.
