Split networking
Application performance might be improved on HPE StoreVirtual 3200 4-port 10GbE iSCSI Storage
systems and HPE StoreVirtual 3200 4-port 10GBase-T Storage systems by routing intercontroller
communications over the bonded data interface. Rerouting intercontroller communications splits the
network, increasing network bandwidth available for application workloads.
Any interface will accept management commands, but the default route is assigned to the MGMT
interface. Some configurations separate management traffic (SVMC, REST, CLIQ, SNMP, and others)
onto a different network than the storage (iSCSI) traffic. Split networking allows the use of one network
interface for management and another network interface for data.
A different split network configuration puts the StoreVirtual OS traffic on an external link rather than the
internal svicl0 link. For some workloads, this configuration may increase performance by providing higher
bandwidth and lower latencies.
Redirecting intercontroller communication
All intercontroller communications are done on external networks in a scale-out configuration.
Prerequisites
Intercontroller communications can be rerouted only on the following systems when not part of a scale-
out or multisite configuration:
• HPE StoreVirtual 3200 4-port 10GbE iSCSI Storage
• HPE StoreVirtual 3200 4-port 10GBase-T Storage
All intercontroller communications take place on external networks in a scale-out configuration.
Before being rerouted for intercontroller communications, the storage systems must meet the following
requirements:
• The system must be fully configured, with the 10GbE or 10GBase-T interfaces bonded and in the
same subnet.
• The system must run, at a minimum, StoreVirtual OS version 13.5 with patches 135-015-02 and
135-016-00.
NOTE:
Systems configured to reroute intercontroller communications can still become part of a scale-out or
multisite configuration in the future. The procedure to establish a scale-out or multisite configuration
updates the settings to support the expanded configuration.
