To reduce the risk of personal injury or
damage to the equipment:
• Remove all hot-pluggable power
supplies and modules to reduce the
overall weight of the device before
lifting.
• Observe local health and safety
requirements and guidelines for
manual material handling.
• Get help to lift and stabilize the device
during installation or removal,
especially when the device is not
fastened to the rails. When a device
weighs more than 22.5 kg (50 lb), at
least two people must lift the
component into the rack together. If
the component is loaded into the rack
above chest level, a third person must
assist in aligning the rails while the
other two support the device.
Required tools
The following items are required for some replacement procedures:
• Flat-head screwdriver
• T-25 Torx screwdriver
Replacing a disk drive
CAUTION:
To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, operate the enclosure only when all bays are
populated with either a disk drive or a blank. The enclosure can be operated for the short period of
time required to replace a failed disk drive.
